Some have requested that I chronicle more “Max” and less “reblogs of Esther and Prior” and what have you.  My life is definitely pretty monotonous these days, so I’ll keep it concise:

1. Wake up quick, at about noon, a là:

2. Eat a bowl of cocoa puffs.

3. Begin computering, some messing around, lotsa e-mail (more on this step later).

4. Run.  I am definitely out of shape, trying to fix that.

5. More food.

6. Computer till about 3 a.m. with intermittent TV (Man, Orlando was hot last night, we’ll get game 4 though.  Kobe WANTS IT).

Rinse. Repeat.

So the only interesting part of my life is what I’m doing, or trying to do, on the computer (besides e-mail).  And that is…a Crimson iPhone app!

I’m basically trying to mimic the stellar WSJ app, starting with just some basic Top stories/FlyByBlog content.  Right now, however, I’m in the very early stages of learning the language and design principles of iPhone programming (Objective-C and Model-View-Controller, for those with deep interest).

Today I made my most complicated program yet (via a tutorial)—a list of fruit that can be clicked on. It is incredibly ragtag and useless, yet my pride and joy as I lolligag around the house. Anyone who has had to program will appreciate how much pain and effort can go into something that is seemingly so simple.  Screenshots below, via the desktop simulator (I don’t want to invest the $99 to run it on a real phone yet).

I’m trying to learn how to program using three tools.  One is the fabulous Stanford class, which is taped and up on iTunes, and super helpful.  I can even download and do the class assignments for practice.  Another is Apple’s documentation online, which is pretty dense, but a great reference.  The third is various walkthrough and tutorial blogs, which let me at least see real code and how to bring it all together.

We’ll see how the whole thing goes, but it’s my summer project outside of work, and I’m going to really press to get it done.

In other news, I think I’m going to have In-N-Out tomorrow.  Why?  Why not?  I love the stuff.
